The Maryland Association of Health Maintenance Organizations (MAHMO) is very active on behalf
of HMOs in the area. According to the 1996 Guide, MAHMO "seeks to increase
public understanding of the network health care industry, as well as to provide advocacy,
education and research services to its members." The guidebook can be requested by
